Daniel and Lisa Flynn

Senior Pastor and Administrator

Pastor Daniel and his wife Lisa (Our church Administrator) came to us in 2023 from North Carolina. Daniel is an Ohio native while Lisa is from Kentucky. They have been married now for 36 years and have two children and six grandchildren

Daniel is serious about theology and rightly dividing the Word of God, but loves to blend humor and storytelling into the proclamation of the gospel. He loves people and loves seeing people come alive in both new life in Christ as well as their discipleship path. He has a heart for his community, his nation, and the nations of the world. Be near him and listen to him very long at all, and you will no doubt hear terms like missional, evangelism, discipling, multiplication, and the Great Commission. There is no such thing as a stranger, and everyone is subject to the question, ‘What do you understand it takes for a person to go to heaven?

One thing is for certain, for the most part, if you see Daniel, Lisa is close by. They love to spend time together, and see life as one big partnership. Lisa has worked for years in the School systems of North Carolina, loves her grandchildren and loves to talk about them. She is a great front door of the church throughout the week.

We would love to see you at Shadow Mountain. Jesus is the head of this church, and we will follow Him wherever He leads!

Hello, my name is Danielle Montoya and I am the director for the Children’s Ministry here at Shadow Mountain Church. I was born and raised in Northern California till I was about 10 years old and that’s when I became a military brat for a few years. I was able to live on Schofield Barracks in Hawaii then Fort Lewis in Washington. At around 16, my family settled in the Southern California area, specifically Huntington Beach and I was around that area until I got married. I have been married to my husband, Jason Montoya since 2012 and we had our first child, Ellie in 2015. We moved to the Carson Valley in 2015 and had 3 more children, Winton, Emery and Remington in the years of 2016, 2018 and 2020.

My family and I have been coming to Shadow Mountain since January 2019 and have felt at home here since. I am excited to be given this opportunity to run the children’s ministry. I am excited to help the children learn about the Lord our God and to motivate them to enjoy the Word and look forward to coming to church every Sunday and hopefully during the week with some great activities and community services.

Paul Sargis
Elder
Paul Sargis has been married to his wife Shawna for over 30 years. Shawna is the director of our Awana ministry. They have two daughters, Rachel, who recently got married and moved to Pahrump, and Abi, who works at a local Christian preschool and serves in our Awana ministry. Paul came to faith in Jesus Christ as a child, was baptized by immersion at age 17, and became a fully committed disciple of Christ in college. Paul and his family have been worshiping with us at Shadow Mountain Church since 2020, after retiring from a long career as an electrical engineer and relocating to Gardnerville. He works in our audio-visual booth and has been involved in our men's discipleship program. He is also an experienced small group Bible study leader and an avid memorizer of Scripture. Paul enjoys using his skills and abilities to help the church staff and community.

Paul takes to heart this exhortation from 2 Timothy 3:14-17: "But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Matt Kalb grew up on a farm in Orland, California. He was raised in a Christian family, attending a small rural church.  He received Christ’s offer of salvation at an early age and was involved in VBS, youth group, and playing guitar for the church worship team.  Matt also worked as a church camp counselor, did puppet ministry, and went on a missions trip to Mexico.

After receiving his Electrical Engineering degree from CSU, Chico, he moved to Gardnerville to begin working for Bently Nevada.  He married Jamie and shortly afterwards they began attending our church in 2008, where they immediately became involved in various church Bible studies and ministries.  Currently, Matt leads children’s worship and Jamie works as a Sunday school teacher.  They homeschool their four children who have grown up in the church’s children’s ministry.  Matt and Jamie have been additionally blessed as they are also excitedly expecting “child number 5”.

I was born in Orange California and raised in the Catholic Church.  I recall attending Mass on Sundays with my family.  I don’t recall reading the bible or studying God’s word.  My Dad passed away when I was 14 years old and I pretty much stopped going to Church.  Spiritually I was lost.  I started working in a restaurant where I met several Christian co-workers.  I was not outgoing and they made me feel welcomed.  I felt uplifted and filled with joy when we worked on the same shift.  I wanted what they had.  On a few occasions we went as a group to services at local Christian Churches.  There I learned I could have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  On August 1978, I was baptized in Christ by Pastor Chuck Smith in Pirates Cove, Newport Beach.  This was a few years after the timeline portrayed in the movie, “Jesus Revolution”.

As my faith in Christ grew so did my Christian friends.  I know my Heavenly Father had a plan for me.  I met my beautiful future wife, Janet, at one of the companies’ restaurants I was transferred to while training for my own store. God is great!  Our faith grew stronger as a couple and we were blessed with our first child and a new career in Law Enforcement.  Our prayers were answered when we were able to buy our first home in Riverside, California.  There we started attending Harvest Christian Fellowship with Pastor Greg Laurie. God blessed us with 3 other boys and a bigger home in Corona, California.  Still attending Harvest Christian Fellowship, we were able to travel to the Holy Land, Israel, in 2014.  Christ our Lord was present with us and we felt his Spirit throughout our trip.  On May 2, 2014, Janet and I were Baptized together in the Sea of Galilee.  What an overwhelming experience!

We now have 7 grandkids and blessed that they all know Jesus Christ!  By God’s grace I was able to retire after 30 years in Law Enforcement in good health and strong faith in Christ my Lord.  We moved to Gardnerville, Nevada 4 years ago and continue to praise our Lord Christ now at Shadow Mountain Church.

Don Wingfield
Elder

Don Wingfield surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus at the age of eight at Chatham Heights Baptist Church in Martinsville, Virginia. He grew up, primarily on his grandparents’ farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, studied chemistry at Virginia Tech, and ultimately moved to southern California where he received his J. D. and practiced law for almost 30 years. He served in the Marine Corps for eight years. He was a member of the Gideons International for many years, serving in a variety of leadership capacities, and traveling internationally where he was privileged to present the gospel to hundreds. He has served in the local church as deacon, elder, song leader, and Sunday School teacher for children and adults. In 2007, he was ordained at Community Baptist church in Lake Arrowhead where he served as associate pastor. While there he also served as a chaplain in a state mental hospital, was the vice commander of Rim Search and Rescue, and became active serving the local homeless community.

Other than his relationship with God, his greatest asset and helper is his wife, Sandy, a wonderful and talented woman. She is his ministry partner and the source of much encouragement. They have three children who, along with their spouses, are walking with the Lord, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Upon retirement from the practice of law, he and Sandy moved to the Carson Valley. Later, Don returned to school, receiving a Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies from Liberty University, was licensed as a chaplain and began serving at Carson Tahoe Medical Center, both in the medical facility and in behavioral health. He also works with veterans and the homeless community. In 2023, he began serving in the Carson City Sheriff’s Office as a law enforcement chaplain for the same reasons he works with veterans. Like the military, deputies face traumatic events regularly and need a safe venue to decompress and a compassionate ear to listen and help them with the public when needed. He serves the Carson Homeless population with Night Off the Streets and has been serving at Shadow Mountain Church in a variety of capacities.

Gene Coates

Deacon

Gene Coates was born and raised in the San Francisco East Bay, where faith, family, and a strong sense of community shaped the course of his life. He grew up attending a Baptist church nearly every Sunday with his family, where he developed a lasting foundation in Christian faith and service. At the age of 16, Gene made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ—an anchor that has guided him ever since.

Gene met his wife, Vicki, at a summer Vacation Bible School program for high school students—a meeting that, as he often jokes, proved that good things really do happen at church events. Together, they built a life centered on faith, love, and family. They are blessed with two sons, Aaron and Bryan, and take great joy in their seven grandchildren, who keep life lively and the laughter frequent.

Gene recently retired after more than 50 years in the in-home appliance repair service industry, where he was known for his reliability, craftsmanship, and steady problem-solving approach—qualities that served him just as well in life as they did in repair work. Alongside his professional career, he devoted nearly four decades to teaching Sunday School, investing in the spiritual growth of others and sharing his faith in a practical, down-to-earth way.

Two and a half years ago, Gene and Vicki moved to Gardnerville, Nevada, where they’ve happily settled in. They love being part of and serving at Shadow Mountain Church, and Gene is enjoying retirement—though “retirement” mostly just means staying busy in different ways.

Today, Gene continues to serve in his church community as a deacon, offering support, encouragement, and the occasional well-timed bit of humor. He enjoys time with family, reflecting on God’s faithfulness through the years, and reminding anyone who will listen that grace has a way of showing up in both the quiet and the unexpected moments of life.

A guiding passage in Gene’s life is Galatians 6:7–10, which reminds believers that we “reap what we sow,” to persevere in doing good, and to serve others faithfully as opportunity arises. This message reflects his steady commitment to living out his faith in everyday actions and encouraging others to do the same.

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭7‬-‭10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Dan Fuller

Dan served six years in the United States Navy before beginning a long career as an in the aerospace industry, where he worked until his retirement in July 2026. Terry, also retiring in July, spent her early work career in retail and is finishing in service to the state of Nevada.

We moved to Carson City in the mid‑1990s and love the beauty and community of the Carson Valley. Together, we enjoy two children and three grandchildren, all living in the Portland, Oregon area.

Our hobbies include camping, hiking, and exploring museums — anything that allows us to learn, wander, and appreciate Gods’ creation. Much of our daily life also revolves around caring for the canines who graciously allow us to share their home.

Above all, we are committed to the Lord and continually place our marriage and our daily walk in His hands. Our desire is to be ministers of the message of Jesus to everyone we meet. Serving God, loving people, and living out the Gospel in practical, meaningful ways is at the heart of who we are.
